( What are catadioptric sensors ? )
The only rotationally symmetric mirrors whose associated projection
from the sphere at infinity to the image plane are conformal are
1. The parabola, if the camera realizes an orthographic projection
2. a non-conic, if the camera is realizes a perspective projection.
To see this write down the differential equations and observe that
these are the only solution. In the non-rotationally symmetric case
there are many other solutions.
